Why Mary?

To answer the question of Why Mary? we will quote out of Sammi's opening blog post:

Mary is the queen of Heaven. Sometimes we take that title for granted. We don’t stop to think what it implies. First, that God put her in charge of the entire universe. She co-redeems us with her Son. She’s the Trinity’s secretary of prayers and blessings for everyone in the whole world. She is the intercessor for the condemned, the gentle hand on the Hand of God, the heart of heaven. Almost any way a queen would act, would be how Mary acts on our behalf.

So how can we even begin to approach her? She is the crown of His creation, the New Paradise, the epitome of all virtue. She is in the most literal sense a perfect human being, and has terrible (in the sense of just how great it is) power before the throne of God.

In the vision of a blog dedicated to purity and the virtuous Christian life, we have tried to keep it denomination-friendly, focusing only on purity at a great distance. We've tried different blog titles that didn't work. We've tried to make everyone happy, but came to find as we tried to make it general, that it didn't work. We cannot address the issue of real purity and leave out the Blessed Mother, the one God created free from sin, the Mother of Jesus.

We could not in our good conscience talk about purity from a distance. It wouldn't work--because it dissolves into air if we only use words. We have in the Blessed Virgin Mary an example, a perfect creature to model our lives after. Without her, we cannot truly teach purity. So we gave up trying to make everyone happy. We will welcome questions from Protestant brothers and sisters, but this is a project consecrated to the Blessed Mother. You can't tell me there's something wrong with wanting to be like the Mother of Jesus. I'm pretty sure He liked her.

If God put her in charge of the entire universe, I think she has the power to teach us what purity means--to pray for us, and patiently guide us in the right direction. What more could we possibly ask for? A loving Queen who will steer us in the path of perfection, by her own humble example!

Our blog is about the virtuous Christian life. We can't talk about it without using the Blessed Mother as an example.

Thanks for joining us.
